Stop! Meme time!!

Mon Jun 8, 2009, 5:45 PM
  • Mood: Distracted
  • Listening to: Someday - TWEWY Original Soundtrack
  • Playing: The World Ends With You
Takin' a break from studying right now. *sighs* I don't remember where I got this meme, but...tada~!! :D

-------------

01] What is your pen name?
I actually go by two names: Natsuko Matsuya AND XaioLoon. But I mainly use XaioLoon.

02] How did you get the name(s)?
Originally Kitsune gave out nicknames for everyone in our group. I was given the nickname "Natsu." So it sort of stuck with me after that. Since I had a Japanese nickname, I thought "Hey. Why not just give myself a full Japanese name?" since I am a paranoid freak about giving out my real name. So I finished the "Natsu" by a "-ko" at the end. The "Matsuya" part came from my first two characters I created in high school, Sachiko and Michi Matsuya.

So the story with my name "XaioLoon" came from my days in jr. high (5th or 6th grade). I was an obsessed fangirl for Cardcaptor Sakura and created a character named XiaoLoon Li. When I signed up for Deviantart (don't remember why in the hell I origianlly did), I couldn't come up a clever name at the time. So I took my character's name, XiaoLoon, and switched the "i" and the "a" in "Xaio". Lo and behold, that is one of the names I go by today. Also my skills at trying to romanize Chinese words back in the fifth grade were horrible, and I thought it was "Loon" instead of "Lung".

03] Do you use PC or Mac?
Mac for college-related things. PC for artwork.

04] What software do you use most often?
Photoshop CS2

05] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
I use a tablet because I'm full of FAILURE when it comes to drawing with a mouse.

06] The color you use most often is?
Brown definitely. Most of my characters are brunettes and their skin is more on the darker skin side.

07] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
I usually put most effort around the head/face area.

08] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
It varies. A sketch could go from 30 min - 1 1/2 hrs. When it comes to coloring a pic, it really depends on my motivation/mood/access to the PC. So it could be a few days - a couple of months.

09] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yeah. Just in case if I want to redraw it again in the future.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Anime Ace

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
300 dpi.

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
I always listen to music that fits the mood of the picture I'm drawing.

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
Maybe 3 - 7 pictures?

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
I usually use any kind of paper: Notebook, printer paper, Strathmore sketchbook, etc.

15] What kind of paper do you use for sketches and drafts?
(see answer above)

16] How long does it take to ink something?
A few days.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Currently drawing an original manga for my Anime Club's Artist Faction.

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?
I've never drawn a doujin in my life...

19] Ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Yes I have. It was a picture of Alex and her Astral from Nightschool for Yen+ Press.

20] Did it get published?
Yes. It's in the June issue.

21] Who are your favorite artists?
CLAMP, Tim Cantor, Keiko Suenobu, and Hayao Miyazaki.

22] What's your favorite Anime/Manga?
That's tough. I'll have to say for now my top 3 are: "Axis Powers Hetalia", "Cardcaptor Sakura", and "Mushishi."

23] Favorite Characters?
Another toughie. For now it's Kyouya Otoori from Ouran, Yoite from Nabari no Ou, and Morita Shinobu from Honey & Clover

46] Are you a computer expert?
Sort of? I'm pretty good at most things except for HTML and CSS.

47] Want to become a professional artist?
I've thought about it, but I don't see myself go after it as a profession. I do it more as a hobby.

50] Do you like to watch movies?
Sort of.

51] What's your favorite movie?
Battle Royale I

52] Have you ever entered art contests?
Sure in elementary school for one of those "Draw a drug free poster" thing. Now these days I don't like entering in one of those major competitions that you see in magazines or on the flyers. My art isn't that great compared to most people who enter in there. On top of that, who would choose an anime-style artwork as a winner for a competition? Personally...I wouldn't if I was a judge.

53] When did you start drawing seriously?
Seriously? I don't know if you call drawing anime "serious drawing" (^^; Like I said I see more as a hobby), but I did start drawing "seriously" when I was introduced to Gundam Wing and Cardcaptor Sakura in the 5th/6th grade. The time where I did start drawing seriously was when I took art classes during my sophmore/junior year of high school.

54] Anything that you often use as a reference when you draw?
Real life drawings, or other poses from other anime.

55] Have you met any of your fans online?
Nope? I don't know. ^^;

56] You have a lot of pen pals?
Don't have any. Not a big fan of snail mail unfortunately.

57] You have a lot of friends that draw?
In high school, just a few. In college, a few also.

58] What time do you usually go online?
Usually from when I get home from classes.

59] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
Not really.

60] Do you have your own computer?
Yes.

61] What would you say to the person you admire?
You're an awesome artist. You don't know how much you inspired me to draw, and that you got me hooked onto CCS for many years.

62] Do you think of things when you draw?
I think about a lot of stuff. It's mainly on how the proportions should be and expressions.

63] Have you drawn badly because you think too much?
Yup many times.

64] Do you have any friends who are professionals?
Not that I know of.

65] Where do you often hang out?
College: computer lab, in front of my classroom; Outside of college: home.

66] Do you have any artists that you don't like too much?
 Not really.

67] Situations in which you really don't like being online?
I don't know...when people catch me at the wrong time when I'm about to leave for work or whatnot?

68] Situations you hate when it comes to having web sites?
I don't have a website. Though it is annoying dealing with the spammers on Deviantart.

69] Something that makes you really glad that the Internet exists?
The Constructive criticisms people can give me on the Internet, and keeping in contact with friends who are far away.

70] What about things that make you NOT glad that the Internet exists?
Stupid immature people and spammers.

71] What's the first picture you've ever shown to the public online?
A fanart of Syaoran and Sakura which was posted on Piggy Ho Ho's CCS Fan Station (before it crashed and she had to redo the whole website).

72] Do you still have that?
Probably not.

73] Has your drawing style changed a lot?
A little...I can't see the difference really except for proportions and my color getting better. Other than that, not really. Then again...I am my own worst judge.

74] How does it usually change?
By taking art classes. It improves your artistic skills immensely.

75] Have you experienced artists block before?
Many times. Who hasn't run into an art block before?

76] How did you escape from it?
I start drawing simple things and then work my way back to complex things.

77] What happens when you have artists block?
I mentally spew out words that are colorful as a rainbow with butterfiles and unicorns.

78] Any artists that have influenced you a lot?
Didn't I already answer a question similar to this?

79] What made you start drawing?
Watching a lot of Disney movies and staring at the artwork in amazement and wonder when I was little.

80] What made you want to get a web site?
I don't have a personal website. Though I wanted a Deviantart account because I wanted to show my work to people. It's easier for me since I don't have to show my relatives my piles and piles of sketchbooks when they're in the "Oh I want to see!" mode. It also lets me post up certain pictures which I only want people to see. The ones I don't want to show are safe in my sketchbooks.

81] Where did your site name come from?
Don't have one.

82] What do you think about net manners?
Very immature and disappointing. A good example are the people on 4chan or 2chan.

83] Have you ever been spammed?
Many times and it's really annoying.

84] Ever thought about quitting your web page?
Who hasn't?

85] If so, why?
Felt like my artwork wasn't up to par with the other people in Deviantart.

86] About how many KB is each picture?
I don't remember. All of my pictures are in the external harddrive right now...

87] When creating your site, do you use a program or pure html?
I'm full of epic fail at HTML.

88] Do you have good eyesight?
Nope. I have glasses due to sticking a gameboy two inches away from my face.

89] If you can get any person's autograph, whose would you get?
CLAMP's or Hayao Miyazaki's.

90] What would you say to that artist when he/she autographs for you?
I would probably freak out and act all fan girly. Probably stutter a "thank you" and then quickly squee.

91] Do you have fans of your art?
I guess? Check my Deviantart?

92] Do you like to draw on oekaki bbs?
Not really. I used to, but now that I think about it...they weren't that great. I don't even know how to use those things properly.

93] Were you good at art in school?
Technique wise? or Grade wise? Grade wise I was an "A" student...Technique wise. Meh.

94] Did you take art lessons other than from school?
One art class. I didn't like the teacher though.

95] Have you drawn a manga?
Currently drawing one right now.

96] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
Oh god. There's a lot...but here's one of my favorites: ""No, you talk to God, you're religious. God talks to you, you're psychotic." ~ Gregory House, House M.D.

97] Do you think your personality is different externally and internally?
Definitely. It's sort of hard for me to explain right now.

98] What's your goal now?
Get a driver's license

99] What do you have to say to yourself?
You should be studying instead of doing this meme!! D<

100] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone?
PASTAAAAAA~!!!!! Oh yeah, anyone can do this meme because I hate tagging random people who I know won't do it anyways~!! :D

Dear lord it's long! I wish there was a function that is similar to an LJ cut. :O
